I don't care if this get's me another week or more of no authorship. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I get that. Here's the thing, I don't care how much you love cheddar cheese.
So, if you want to have the logical conversation, you're going to have to accept a lot of swearing and borrowing from Pathos. Why? Because, yeah; it's more efficent and therefore, in the eyes of today, "better". Better isn't always right. If everyone were beige and prayed to the same no-god, we'd get along a lot better. It's true. But that world would suck and I don't want to live in your PC only world.
Sometimes, being a human, I like things for no reason what-so-ever outside that insane, inexplicable passion. That, my friend, is more a part of our condition then is cooperation and mutual-masturbation and if you like that, it's fine by me.
But don't come into my den of manly pursuits and tell me that I'm going to have to adapt, that I'm going to have to change with the times, because everyone has decided to be beige, boring and full of bullshit. Don't do it because I'll berate you, bring you to tears, and then kick you the good-god out.
Some things are sacred. You tread on them at your peril.
Drive Free or Die.
Remember that?
The day it we chant, "Drive Boring and Live" I'll lop my penis off and sell it on eBay as the last manly thing left.
Seriously.

If anyone tries to remove your authorship for this or the comments you've made in that post I will restore it. You couldn't be more correct. That post and VS's reply are going to be troll bait. Just wait until it gets posted on the front page (not unlikely to happen tomorrow).

Thank you.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with a pitchfork and a torch. Look, Frankenstein and his monster are screwing up our little village. That's not to be tolerated. Amiright?

I tend not to see any point in getting too upset over anything, that's why I haven't commented on that post. People are entitled to their opinions but that doesn't mean they are necessarily correct. Automatics (and variants thereof) have their place but so do manuals. Cheap, efficient, fun. I'll have what I like and let others have what they like as long as they don't try to preach or force their beliefs on me.

No drama yet and there won't be any. Don't worry about it.

Agreed!
I furthermore admit that current manual-autos and DCT/DSGs etc win The Award Of Logos. Logically, as the technology stands, it's hard to argue against it.
But if we end the argument at its logical conclusion, never leaning on the schools of Pathos or Ethos, one has to admit that it ends with everyone driving around in computer-directed, environmentally netural and totally boring... things.
Arguments can be made for both, I admit.
But, and this is a big but, manual transmissions are like whales. Hang with me here. There aren't a lot of the big ones left, but they're worth protecting and, as it stands today, camping with the "down with manual transmissions" side is kind of like saying, "Fuck the Whales. Sharks are better!"
I like whales. I like manual transmissions.
It's a touchy subject.

Don't create drama for the sake of drama. You'll be fine. And I think you probably saw that I didn't agree with the position either. And I didn't take the absolute calmest route either. Sometimes we get passionate. It happens. Just keep a level head and remember that you are talking to a fellow enthusiast who you share a community with. We all can use this reminder occasionally.
I like the passion that we bring. It gives me hope that manuals will still be around in 10 years. So long as we still have gasoline and oil.
Cheers!

I'm not sure about my skills at being vague. I mean, look... I really tried. Nothing was mentioned in detail, no links. Even the picture, I mean c'mon! How much more vague can you get?
And then, BAM, everyone knows exactly what I'm talking about.
I'd make a terrible spy.

Seriously, I write those articles so you guys can express your true passions. I thought I'd write something a bit tongue-in-cheek (probably didn't accomplish that), but I wanted to make people think a little bit.
Sure it's a bit provocative, but in the end, we all love cars, don't we? I love talking cars any day of the week. And it's my way of learning more and more about them.
And express your passion! I'm sure any OEM product planner reading the piece would love the impassioned defense of their decisions.

That quip at the end, I can't decide if it's a compliment or a jab. Or maybe a little of both. Either way, I approve.
My impassioned response was in no way personal, you doorknob head. (I'd insert a smiley face here, but Oppo and smiley faces don't so much mesh)
